Baked Vanilla Pears

Serves 4 Takes 45 mins to cook Takes  15 mins to prepare 1 5 a day portions


4 x ripe dessert pears 

3 drops natural vanilla extract 

150ml apple juice 

Small piece of unsalted butter (about 30g) 

Natural yogurt, to serve (optional)


  1. Cut the pears in half and scoop out the core with a small spoon or cut out with a small sharp knife (this will partly depend on how ripe they are).
  2. Drop the vanilla into the apple juice and then pour this over the pears and roast in the oven for 30 minutes. Spoon the juices over the pears at least once during cooking.
  3. Dot with the butter, Return to the oven for another 10 minutes or until the pears are tender and slightly caramelised.
  4. Serve with the yogurt.


TIP: If serving to toddlers, you might like to cut some pear into small pieces or mash before mixing with a little yogurt.

These pears are delicious served warm or cold
