Current guidance

Physical activity is important for all ages as it can reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases such as coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes and some cancers by up to 50%.
Physical activity also promotes musculoskeletal health and mental health and well-being, however physical activity levels in England are low in virtually all of the adult population and concerns are increasing for some groups of children as well.
For most people the easiest forms of physical activity are those that can be incorperated into everyday life, such as walking instead of driving, taking the stairs instead of the lift or taking up active hobbies such as gardening, swimming or zumba!
